Along the road of life, there is often life along the road.
“Food Lion,” by the way, is the local animal-named grocery chain. The local for my region is “Giant Eagle,” though the name is misleading. It’s actually giant hawks that build their nests on the store roof and carry off slower patrons to feed their young.
I spent the last two days driving to and back from Virginia for a series of job interviews, my first solo trip to the area. Well, solo as in I was the only living human in the car; I brought my giant Fluttershy plush with me, sitting beside me in the front.
And this is the point as arrived to in many a comic notes, where I discuss MLP plush.
The previous weekend, Reef and his fiancé Saber visited a Pittsburgh toy show, returning with yarns of Comic Con Pon-3’s and Funrise Applejacks (among non-yarn Sailor Moon cats and portable famiclones). If you recall the image from last week’s comic, there is a very noticeable gap in my plush collection. Though in my travels, I stopped at no less than five separate Walmarts throughout the 300 mile journey and came up empty-handed. There was hope in one store, abundant with such riches as Rarities and Fluttershies in multiples, but Applejack remained elusive. Next week, I shall add the cereal aisle to my now routine search in the event that the stockhandlers misunderstand the product.
This is the part of the notes where I stop typing and leave for two to three hours, visiting my nearest bear construction retail chain outlet to purchase a dragon for myself and a winged steed for Saber. I’ll put on some music while you wait for my return.
HERE IS A SONG. IT IS ABOUT A DRAGON.
Okay, wow. That was quite the trip. So I have Spike. Expectedly, he’s freaking adorable. Either I got a good one specifically, or they’ve improved the design, but Twilight’s a bit better looking than I expected. And, stopping at Toys’R’Us, they had the new miniatures collection with the Cakes and the Everfree Forest creatures, so essentially I had to pick up both. In the Everfree set, Fluttershy and Rarity have new pose molds, and while Rarity’s is just okay, it’s nice to have Fluttershy finally look like Fluttershy.
But more to the point, during the drive, I received a call. The aforementioned interviews bared fruit, and I received an offer from one of the places to begin around the end of the month.
What this means for Horse Power, I’m not sure. Not yet at least. So long as I have the time and energy and resources to make comics, I will continue to do so, but with newfound responsibilities, my schedule may demand more than I can handle. I’m not going to announce a clear hiatus now, but don’t be surprised if I do so in the near future. It’s a very exciting, very demanding, and a little bit scary opportunity.
